Aldi’s Gloria Douro Reserva Is Vegan Friendly

I’ve been steadily making my way through the Aldi’s vegan wine range and this week, it’s Portugal. If it wasn’t obvious from the name, Gloria Douro Reserva is a vegan-friendly red wine from Portugual’s famous Douro valley. It’s part of Aldi’s Classic Icons range; the supermarket’s premium wine range designed to showcase iconic wines from regions across the world, all hand-selected by Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn.

This is an oak-aged wine, offering very enjoyable richness and depth for a wine less than £8. Alongside velvety chocolate notes these are intense fruit flavours: particularly stewed plum, mulberry and cassis. Whilst it started a little heavy, within half an hour it was noticeably smoother and more developed. Overall, I was a little dubious when it was first opened but after giving it a chance to breathe, was happy with the result.
